Pax Americana Institute

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. Edmund Burke

Pax Americana: the Magazine

The flagship of the Pax Americana Institute is its monthly print magazine. Pax Americana: The Magazine is devoted to addressing the issues that confront the United States in the 21st century from a classical conservative perspective. Each month, Pax Americana brings you a compilation of continuing columns, feature articles, and cultural reviews of books and movies. Readers from the State of Wisconsin also receive a special supplement, focusing on the issues and happenings of the Badger State.

Currently, PAI plans to launch the magazine in 2008, but this date depends on the support of our members, fellows, and friends!

Ongoing Columns

Pax Americana’s continuing columns highlight issues that are of ongoing concern to critical thinkers from a classical conservative perspective. Several examples include:

The Pax Americana

The cornerstone for the Institute’s perspective on issues of foreign policy and the role of America in the world. This monthly column will address the issues of Pax Americana, the Institute’s cornerstone of foreign policy. The column will be devoted to specific issues from an analytical and historical perspective.

Templar’s Tale

A column devoted to the philosophy of the gentlemen, chivalry, and modern America. This short column is devoted to the lost art of the conservative gentleman.

Privacy Watch

The ongoing column on privacy issues, Privacy Watch addresses concerns about privacy in the post-9/11 world: if we still care about it, does that mean the terrorists have already won? Privacy Watch focuses on the issue of how and when American culture decided not to care about privacy anymore.

Star Watch: American Idiot

Each month’s Star Watch has a roundup of comments by celebrities, with analysis to explain why you should look to them for entertainment, but not necessarily for accurate political and social commentary.

The Definition of “IS”

This column presents humorous or sadly ridiculous antics of the modern American liberal.

Culture

An important part of Pax Americana’s role is to let you know about books, movies, and cultural events that you might otherwise not hear about. Want to know if the new book or movie that everyone is talking about is worth your time? The Culture section of Pax Americana is designed with you in mind!

The Road Goes Ever On

“The only books that influence us are those for which we are ready, and which have gone a little further down our particular path than we have gone ourselves.” E.M. Forster

This monthly column of book reviews highlights works of fiction and non-fiction that have things to say, and might fall off of the radar as a result.

Out to the Lobby

“That’s part of your problem: you haven’t seen enough movies. All of life’s riddles are answered in the movies.” Steve Martin

Remember when singing candies and hot dogs told you to go out to the lobby to buy yourself a treat? Movies have come a long way since then. The Institute’s monthly column on film will focus on the films that ask and answer the big questions.

Wisconsin Insight

Wisconsin is the home of PAI, and the base of many of our members, so it’s only natural for us to talk about issues affecting Wisconsin. The Pax Americana local supplement, Wisconsin Insight, addresses current policy issues affecting Wisconsin residents, with a little bit of beer and cheese thrown in!
