I dislike it very much. I do believe that we all ought to make changes in our comparatively excessive lifestyles, but I believe this should apply to all citizens and not just union workers. Also, it is clear that unions and union workers are willing to talk yet Gov. Walker’s totalitarian rule has yet again reared it’s manipulative head.

My response falls under the 3rd option, in case you are unclear.

How do I feel about Gov. Walker’s plan regarding public sector unions? I like it. I favor it 100%.

To be sure, it seems harsh. But, any honest examination will make it plain: it has to be done.

Reason 1: The unions will NOT negotiate in good faith… ever. At least not in any meaningful way that will of require of the union any significant sacrifices. Many on the Left seem convinced that “the unions are ready to make the two major concessions, so why doesn’t Gov. Walker sit down at the table? Why does he insist on taking away their collective bargaining rights, too?”

Only the naive believe that the unions are really on-board with the necessary budget-control plans that Walker has put forth. They only reason they are presently mouthing acceptance of some of the concessions is because their back is against the wall, and they have no choice. They see that Walker is not going to buckle like Doyle. They see that Republicans have the legislative power to make it happen. So, what do the unions have to lose? Now that they have no choice… NOW they’ll act all magnanimous and reasonable.

But, if Walker and the Reps leave collective bargaining in place, then you can start your timer. AS SOON as the Dems regain control of any portion of the government, the public-sector unions leaders will come out swinging demanding the return of any and all concessions! We’ll hear all about how, “The public employees took their turn. The public employees played fair, and paid their fair share. Now, it’s time to give back to those ever-selfless public employees; They’re just working people like you and me. And, damn it, man! They teach our children. They deserve so much more than they get!”

If you want proof of this accusation… Why have SO MANY public sector (local level) unions crammed in rapid-fire contracts in the past weeks? With Gov. Walker’s budget-cutting plan well-announced and looming large, why did so many of these very same supposedly-compromise-ready union types rush through renewals of their contracts?

Doesn’t sound like they get it. Doesn’t sound like they’re on-board. Doesn’t sound like they’re committed to serious fiscal reform.

Granted, on this point, we’re talking about local-level union employees. But, isn’t it really the same thing? Aren’t these really the same people?

No, public-sector unions have to go.

No… the collective bargaining has to go.
